A highlight of the work in IYCS/JECI was the facilitation of the annual International Committee 2014 from the 2nd to 6th July together with the training session for the Global Campaign from the 6th to 14th July, which took place in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Both events were attended by the European Coordinator Johannes Maximilian Niessen. It is great to see the secretariat of IYCS/JECI again carrying out projects, which are one of the pillars of the movement.
As it regards the International Committee 2014 the place for the next World Council 2015 was discussed and four advocacy documents for the global campaign as well as the budget for next year were amended and adopted. On an informal level, the IC 2014 created a real team spirit amongst the international team members of IYCS/JECI and future collaboration is more than just intended.
The Global Campaign Training Session gathered around 45 participants with a majority coming from IYCS/JECI movements from Africa. During the Training Session amongst others, IYCS/JECI’s position on development has been elaborated and valuable input on advocacy mechanisms has been given. The event resulted in a concluding paper which was presented to the minister of youth and sports as well as to another member of the government of Cote d’Ivoire. Before this, the participants went on a march for raising awareness of the global campaign “fight poverty, build peace”.
